Before your treatment
Before you arrive for each hair removal treatment, there are a few simple instructions that must be followed to make your treatment as effective as possible. Unlike other laser techniques, there is no need to avoid sun exposure or tanning before and during your treatment. However, the treatment area should be absolutely clean of any deodorants, lotions, makeup, sun block, or any other chemicals or skincare products. These can block the transmission of light and limit the amount of heat that enters the skin. Last, make a note of any medications that you are currently taking. Your laser hair removal therapist needs this information to make sure that any medications you are taking do not cause photosensitivity. Let your nurse know each time you have a treatment if you have taken any new medications.
The Procedure
Before we begin the procedure we will ask a few simple medical questions. If you suspect you are pregnant it is important to let your nurse know. Next we will remove any re-growth with a razor. This will provide a clean surface and will prevent any hair on the outside of the skin from absorbing the laser light. This is to ensure that no areas are missed by the laser. Then we will uniformly pulse the laser over the entire area to be treated using a computer guided scanner. The treatment is mostly painless; however, occasionally the laser pulse will feel like a rubber band snapping on the skin.
Post-Treatment Care
The treated skin might appear pink and may be slightly tender for a few hours to a few days. On rare occasion there may be burning, blistering, scabbing, or bruising. If this happens contact Amarillo Laser & Vein Clinic for special instructions.
The hair will appear to grow after the treatment. It is actually not growing, it is shedding. In about 10 to 14 days the hair will loosen up and fall out of the follicle.
